Job Description

Job Purpose

  1. Accountable to the Head of Junior School and, through the Head of Junior School, to the Headmistress of Uppingham Hung Yen.
  2. The Junior School EAL Teacher plays a key role in supporting students for whom English is an Additional Language to access the curriculum fully and make strong academic and personal progress.
  3. The post holder will deliver high - quality EAL teaching, support inclusive classroom practice and work collaboratively with academic staff and the Head of Inclusion to ensure that all learners are valued, supported and challenged appropriately.
  4. Uppingham School, Hung Yen is a diverse international school in Vietnam, serving learners from a range of linguistic, cultural and educational backgrounds. The role requires flexibility, cultural sensitivity and a commitment to inclusive international education.

Job Criteria

Education, Skills, Training and Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree (education related preferred).
  2. Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTS, or international equivalent).
  3. EAL/ESL qualification (e.g. TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, DELTA) or strong evidence of relevant experience.
  4. Fluent spoken and written English.


Desirable Experience and Skills

  1. Experience teaching EAL learners in a primary or junior school setting.
  2. Experience working in an international or multilingual school environment.
  3. Knowledge of inclusive education practices and language - support strategies.
  4. Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, inclusion staff and school leaders.
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Cultural awareness and sensitivity when working with students and families from diverse backgrounds.
  7. Competence in using digital tools to support teaching and assessment.
