Uppingham School and VCE have unveiled designs for their first Vietnam campus in Hung Yen, a K–12 school offering a UK curriculum and modern facilities for about 2,000 students.

Uppingham School, in partnership with Viet Capital Education (VCE), has unveiled the first architectural designs for Uppingham School Vietnam – Hung Yen campus, marking the renowned British institution’s first venture into Asia. This milestone reflects a shared commitment to educational excellence and international collaboration, as the United Kingdom and Vietnam strengthen ties under their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Located within the Ecopark township in Hung Yen, the 4.7-hectare campus is designed to accommodate approximately 2,000 pupils. As a K–12 British international school, it will deliver the UK national curriculum, including iGCSE and A Level programmes, preparing students for entry into leading universities worldwide. The school will maintain the same academic standards and international accreditation as its founding institution in the UK.

Rooted in Uppingham’s nearly 450-year heritage, the school embraces a holistic approach to education, focusing on the development of each pupil’s individual talents and character. This philosophy, shaped by visionary Victorian headmaster Edward Thring, integrates academic learning with music, sport, and wellbeing. The Vietnam campus will reflect this ethos through a wide range of modern facilities, including advanced laboratories, libraries, a performing arts centre, sports complex, and football pitch—designed to support both academic and co-curricular excellence.

The campus layout prioritises both functionality and inspiration. A covered drop-off area ensures safe and convenient access, while The Great Hall will serve as a central hub for assemblies, performances, exhibitions, and community events. Early years classrooms are designed to open directly onto landscaped outdoor play areas, encouraging a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor learning that fosters curiosity and creativity.

The project is being led by Broadway & Malyan, a highly respected UK architectural firm. The design vision emphasises a nurturing environment that promotes creativity, connection, and engagement with nature.

Leaders from both countries have highlighted the significance of the project. British Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew described education as a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation, while Uppingham Headmaster Dr Richard Maloney reaffirmed the school’s commitment to delivering a forward-thinking, globally connected education.

Founded in 1584, Uppingham School continues to uphold its tradition of balancing academic excellence with personal development, preparing students to thrive and contribute positively in an ever-changing world.
