Purpose & Priorities

Our Purpose

At Uppingham Hung Yen we work to inspire in young people an excitement for their future by empowering them with the skills, ambition, and confidence to navigate their own pathway through life, building their sense of responsibility to forge ahead as curious, critical thinkers who connect the communities they represent and seek to join.

Our Priorities

01

Curiosity

Our curriculum will excite intellectual curiosity and nurture self-sufficient pupils who are stretched, challenged, and imbued with critical thinking skills, to enable them to thrive academically and engage profoundly with learning, supporting them to excel.

02

Sense of Community and Belonging

We are a thriving, cohesive community where everyone is welcomed, valued, and encouraged to flourish. We work collaboratively to ensure that staff, pupils, and parents work in partnership to build proactive and responsive pastoral systems, so every pupil is safe and well cared for.

03

Pastoral Care

We enable pupils to learn how to manage their own physical and mental health, solve problems and develop habits of resilience. We ensure that any young person who experiences pastoral difficulties is identified at an early stage and is offered prompt and effective individual support.

04

Holistic Development

We give pupils opportunities for holistic growth through a varied and stimulating co-curricular programme - focusing on creativity, physical literacy, leadership, service, entrepreneurship, and personal development. Ultimately, we want our pupils to reach their full potential as global, self-aware citizens.

05

Excellence in Co-Curricular Activities

We will retain our competitive edge, delivering for young people who are looking for excellence in music, sport, theatre and drama, and outdoor education, alongside a desire for personal growth and challenge.

06

Innovation

We will be a hub of pedagogical expertise and innovation – one that stimulates teachers at all stages of their careers. Our collaborative professional culture is committed to outstanding practice and continual reflection, and enjoys a reputation for excellence in teaching – embracing new ideas and technologies.

07

Connectivity

Uppingham is recognised for our outstanding British K-12 experience, ensuring that pupils have access to the best programme of study, to flourish and enjoy learning. We give young people the confidence and knowledge to make informed decisions about their next steps upon graduation – including opportunities for life-long relationships with the school as 'Old Uppinghamians'.

08

Global Awareness

We embrace talent and diversity and create meaningful educational partnerships across our group of schools that advance opportunities for pupils to learn and connect. Building networks of excellence and aspiration supports pupils and staff to discover the value of relationships and enhance their personal commitment to contribute to wider social good.

For the forward thinkers, makers, debaters and creators.
